What Are We Watching? Spring 2024
Let’s couch it for a bit! Because when we’re not creating stories to share with all of you, we’re watching stories created by other people. To be honest, it’s probably our favorite thing. Taking time to watch stories other people want to share – whether to expand our minds, share a laugh, or just be calm entertainment after a long day's work – is part of what makes this industry so great.

I've been specifically attached to the character of Fabian played by Caitlin Reilly in Mike Judge’s animated Peacock series, IN THE KNOW. Fabian was a character I didn't like initially; she's so harsh and judgmental to the people she knows, while going overboard for certain causes...yet the show finds fantastic ways to completely flip this. Her complete collapse in the second episode was one of the funniest things I've seen in months, and Caitlin’s ability to show Fabian’s true humanity through her very tough facade makes me really like this character.

LIFE ON OUR PLANET is the perfect middle ground for me and my nine-year-old. Narrated by the great Morgan Freeman, this show blends incredible nature photography with convincing CGI to transcend time and space, resurrecting creatures of old while showing us intimate scenes of today’s wildlife. It’s a great example of how you can draw parallels between ancient history and modern times through seamless integration of visual effects and cinematography.
Plus, who doesn’t love cute animal videos?

I’m laughing at Simple Town sketches on Instagram. Sketch comedy standouts @simple__town have been releasing some of the funniest and most visually inventive short form sketches I've seen in a long time. They fearlessly play with form and expectations!

I'm all about THE GREAT POTTERY THROWDOWN on MAX. I have worked with clay since I was a kid, and I really needed a low stakes, feel-good TV experience because the world is bonkers, and some of the work we do at CBN can get pretty heavy. The Great Pottery Throwdown is lovely and heartfelt. I have worked with clay since I was a kid and learn new things. Friend of Cowboy Bear Ninja, Janet S. Kim, recommended it to me. Thanks, Janet!

I’m hooked on Lattice Training’s videos on YouTube. In my opinion, YouTube is the best platform to find long format how-to videos on micro-crimping and other esoteric rock climbing concerns. Plus, when any of my preferred channels recommend a product, I am very keen to check it out! That’s a great example of how important knowing your audience and customer is, and just how specific that knowledge can be.

DAD & STEP-DAD at New/Next Film Fest is now streaming! Dad & Step-Dad is a hilarious comedy I caught in Baltimore at New/Next Film Fest 2023. It's on all the streamers March 22! I hope more people get a chance to watch it. The small team that made it did just amazing work, and created the funniest on-screen moments I saw in the last year.
