When I shot the launch video for Whistlestop the concept was to shoot the whole thing with little buttons. It is something of a challenge to work on only very small scales.

We wound up shooting with scope lenses. They are very small and really help you feel like you are in a miniature world. The most interesting properties are that it flips the image upside down (we flipped all our monitors to match) and since it sticks out about 8″ from the camera and captures things on small scales, panning or tilting looks like dollying or booming.

Since we were using this lens system for the first time, it was important to test it out, so we took the Red One and lens kit to our backyard to film miniatures. Above are the results – closeups on one of our favorite games and one of our coolest friends.
